Inspection Standards

Types of Inspections

Lindemann offers different levels of chimney inspection depending on your specific needs. The most common are described here. Obstructions or blockages in your chimney can cause toxic fumes such as carbon monoxide, to enter your home. Regular chimney inspections can greatly reduce the risk of chimney fires and carbon monoxide poisoning in the home. The most common inspections are those we classify as a Level II or Level III inspection. Each is summarized below:

Level 2 Inspection

  • Comprehensive Visual Check: Includes everything in a Level 1 inspection plus accessible portions of the chimney exterior and interior.
  • Camera Inspection: Utilizes specialized cameras to examine the flue and check for damages, obstructions, or buildup.
  • Required in Certain Situations: Ideal for property sale transactions, after an operational malfunction, or a significant event like a fire or weather-related incident.

Level 3 Inspection

  • In-Depth Examination: Involves all aspects of Level 1 and Level 2 inspections, plus inspection of concealed areas to investigate known or suspected problems.
  • Intrusive Inspection: May require removal of certain parts of the building or chimney structure to gain access to areas where suspected hazards exist.
  • For Serious Concerns: Recommended when serious hazards are suspected or following events causing severe damage to the chimney structure.

Our Process

The Chimney Sweep & Cleaning Process

To ensure that we protect your home from any damage, drop cloths will be used to protect all surface areas near the fireplace. We scan every chimney we clean. In doing so, we can find hidden defects that we didn’t know were there before.

During the cleaning process, our technicians clean the entire system from the fireplace up. We use professional brushes, and a Triple Hepa Filter Vacuum. This ensures that no dust or allergens enter the air in your home. Our cleaning services also include a Level 2 NFPA Inspection. Here is our 4-step process:

  1. Initial Inspection: Assessing the chimney’s condition and identifying any issues.
  2. Creosote Removal: Using specialized tools to remove dangerous creosote buildup.
  3. Soot and Debris Cleaning: Ensuring a thorough clean for better airflow.
  4. Final Evaluation: Checking the chimney for any remaining issues or hazards.

We clean the entire system:

Proper maintenance and cleaning of your fireplace is essential for its safe and efficient operation.
